A couple of days ago, I posted about Bobcaygeon, otherwise known as the “Hub of the Kawarthas”. (You can read that post here!) Today, I thought we’d head a few kilometres west to the “Jewel of the Kawarthas”, Fenelon Falls! I first discovered Fenelon Falls a few years ago. A group of girlfriends and I rented a cottage in the area for a weekend getaway, and I quickly fell in love with the area’s charming downtown core, not to mention those stunning Kawartha Lakes sunsets that we enjoyed from the cottage dock. So, when I had the opportunity to return this summer, I jumped at the chance! Here are some of my highlights from this year’s visit to Fenelon Falls, which should have you ‘falling’ for the area too!
Eganridge Resort, Golf Club & Spa – Neither Tania nor I are particularly good golfers – okay, we don’t golf at all – but we do love a restaurant with a view! Stables Sports Bar & Patio overlooks Eganridge’s golf course – which is set on Sturgeon Lake – and serves a menu of casual favourites like pizza, salads and burgers. Eganridge has another restaurant offering a more formal menu, The Dining Room, which we look forward to trying another time! Eganridge is located about 13km west of downtown Fenelon Falls, en route to Bobcaygeon.

The Little Pie Shack – Housed in a hot pink building on Francis Street East in downtown Fenelon Falls, this iconic bakery is hard to miss! I first discovered it on that girlfriends’ cottage trip years ago – we had stopped in to purchase a pie to surprise one of my friends for her birthday. I still remember how delicious that pie was, so when Tania and I were in town this year, I knew we had to stop by for some treats. While most famous for their pies – which they bake in a wide variety of flavours, from apple to pecan to lemon meringue – the Little Pie Shack also sells smaller pastries (tarts, biscuits and squares), savoury items (pot pies and lasagnas) and sandwiches to-go. We tried their strawberry rhubarb tarts, which are so flavourful and have the most delightful crumble topping. I only wish we’d gotten some more to take home!

Fenelon Falls Brewing Co. – This popular local brewery has a second-level restaurant offering great views and even better deals – who can beat a burger and a beer for $10!? Visit their main-level retail shop to pick up cans or growlers of their award-winning craft beer, along with branded sweaters, tee shirts and hats – the perfect souvenir of your trip to Fenelon Falls!

Slices N’ Scoops – This classic joint serves exactly what the name suggests – pizza and ice cream – but they also offer other splurge-worthy summer treats like chicken wings, fries, onion rings and funnel cakes. On that cottage trip I mentioned earlier, we found ourselves here a few times! I strongly recommend the funnel cake, which, paired with a scoop or two of Kawartha Dairy ice cream, is junk food heaven. But, be forewarned – Fenelon Falls’ tourism season peaks in the summer, so Slices N’ Scoops (along with some other businesses) close for the year on Labour Day weekend. Pay them a visit while you still can!

Lock 34 – You simply can’t go to Fenelon Falls without seeing the falls themselves! They’re located in the heart of downtown, on the lower side of the lock station, which is a peaceful spot to sit and watch the boats. Right by the lock station is the Vegas-esque “Fenelon” sign, which lights up at night to welcome visitors to the Fenelon Falls community.
