I love a good wine tour as much as the next person, but sometimes, after a day of sipping Chardonnays and snacking on cheese boards, it’s refreshing to visit a winery that offers a little something different! That’s exactly what you’ll get at Huff Estates. In addition to their wine tasting bar and restaurant, their expansive property is also home to the Oeno Gallery and outdoor sculpture garden! We recently enjoyed both a wine tasting and a stroll through the sculpture garden, and I can confirm that wine and art is one of my new favourite combinations.
Huff Estates offers tastings for $10, which includes three pours of your choice from their tasting menu. We sampled the Day Tripping Riesling (subtly sweet with hints of peach), the Weekender Blend (a citrusy mix of three different grapes: Viognier, Pinot Gris and Riesling) and the Getaway Rosé (dry, fruity and floral – our favourite of the three!)
After our tasting, it was time to explore the sculpture garden! This garden is seriously impressive: it’s home to over 60 sculptures by Canadian and U.S. artists, displayed across four acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. The Oeno sculpture garden is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Prince Edward County, welcoming over 30,000 visitors each year!
We loved strolling the grounds and checking out all of the unique sculptures on display. Some of my favourite pieces include Mike Salisbury’s Public Phone, Dave Sheridan’s Ascension 3/5, and Natsuki Tajakuji’s Window II – a fun interactive piece for kids and adults alike! (I’m a firm believer that you’re never too old for a swing set.)
Both Tania and I love flowers and plants, so in addition to the art, we really enjoyed the ‘garden’ element of this sculpture garden as well! There are tall grasses planted everywhere, which lends the setting a breezy, prairie-like vibe that feels so peaceful and calming. The sunflowers – Tania’s favourite flower – were in full bloom, and so gorgeous and vibrant! A leafy tunnel was one of our favourite installations on the property – we couldn’t tell whether it was a sculpture or just part of the garden, but either way, it sure was fun to walk through!
Both Oeno’s indoor gallery and sculpture garden are free to visit. The gallery is open from 11-5 every day except Tuesday, and the sculpture garden is open seven days a week from 9-5.
