La Maison Rose

Hi all – I hope everyone is having a great week so far! Christmas is just around the corner and it feels like things should be winding down, but this year it seems like everything is just ramping up. Work has been so busy for me! I’m hoping that things settle down a bit next week. Either way, I’m really looking forward to my holiday break this year – I need some downtime!

Last week I shared a post about Mrs. Mitchell’s, a restaurant in Mulmur that’s a charming spot all year round, but especially during Christmastime. Today’s post is in a similar vein, because I’ll be talking about a delightfully whimsical, over-the-top café that’s adorable in every season, but that you’ll especially want to add to your Christmas to-do list.

La Maison Rose is a restaurant, café and patisserie located in Grimsby. If these photos look familiar, you’ve more than likely seen this spot several times before on Instagram! The café is famous for its unapologetically feminine, frilly, shabby chic décor. It’s also very, very pink. In other words, this isn’t exactly the spot you’d take your guy friends to watch the game over a pint of beer. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a special spot for Mother’s Day, a bridal party or just a fun weekend brunch with girlfriends, this is it! It’s not the original La Maison Rose in Paris (which I can only guess it’s named after) but with its French-inspired décor, it pays a nice homage to it.

While the general theme at La Maison Rose always stays consistent, they incorporate seasonal themes into their décor which they rotate regularly. They’ve done Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, and Summertime in Paris displays previously, but every December, they bring out their charming Christmas décor: toy soldiers, gingerbread houses, miniature trees made out of macarons, and a large Christmas tree swathed in pink ornaments.

We went to La Maison Rose last December for brunch and had the loveliest experience! Here is their current brunch menu; they rotate their features regularly so please note that the items featured below may not currently be available.

To start, I had a gingerbread latte which was served with biscotti on the side – a nice touch! I ordered the Belgian waffles and Tania got the French toast. Both came beautifully plated, topped with whipped cream, raspberry sauce, fresh berries, butter, maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar – the presentation is top-notch! Both meals were delicious and made the perfect sweet start to the day.

While the dining room is for dine-in guests only, you can also pop in and grab a to-go coffee or pastry from their adorable bakery.

I recently heard that La Maison Rose is selling the business and space, and it’s hard to know whether the new owners will take over the existing business or not. I hope they do, but just in case they don’t, I highly recommend visiting La Maison Rose while you still get a chance! They close their dining room for the holidays on December 18, and their takeout bakery/coffee counter on December 23. Keep an eye on their Instagram for updates regarding the future of the business.

Are you a fan of themed restaurants? If so, let me know some of your favourites! I’d love to hear your suggestions.
